Forrest Memorial Road Race
Cancelled for 2020
After much consideration and thought, it is with heavy hearts that we announce the cancellation of the 36th Annual Forrest Memorial Road Race scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27, 2020. Following a lengthy discussion with the Thrive executive team and the Forrest family – who founded the event – there was a consensus that a large gathering like the road race would yield too much of a health risk for runners, volunteers, Thrive participants, corporate partners, and the general community.
There was discussion around moving the race to a virtual platform, but a virtual race does not create the sense of community we strive for with this event. Although this is a fundraiser for Thrive, the focus has always been on bringing people together. It was an opportunity for runners, partners, participants, and families to learn about each other and discover more about Thrive. Running a virtual race does not achieve that goal.
Last year Thrive raised almost $17,000 through the road race. Indeed, those funds will be missed, especially following the financial burden taken on by the organization resulting from the pandemic. We know it has been a difficult time for many, but if you would like to support Thrive through a sponsorship or monetary donation, that would be immensely appreciated. Learn more about the benefits of sponsorship here or click the link below. Donations of $25 or more will receive a commemorative 2020 Forrest Road Race t-shirt recognizing the “Race That Wasn’t”.
